      DESCRIPTION
Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer who is widely regarded as the world's first computer programmer. Born in 1815, she was the daughter of poet Lord Byron and was introduced to mathematics and science at an early age. In 1833, she met mathematician and inventor Charles Babbage, who was working on a machine called the Analytical Engine, a general-purpose mechanical computer.
Lovelace saw the potential of Babbage's machine to do much more than simple calculations and wrote a series of notes to accompany a published description of the engine. These notes included a method for using the machine to generate mathematical patterns, including Bernoulli numbers, and are now considered the first published algorithm intended for implementation on a computer. Lovelace recognized the potential of computers to not just perform calculations, but to create art and music and wrote, "The analytical engine has no pretensions to originate anything. It can do whatever we know how to order it to perform. It can follow analysis, but it has no power of anticipating any analytical relations or truths." Her work laid the foundation for the development of computer science and is widely recognized as the first computer program.
